Apparently there are many different ways to use Ancestry that go way beyond the basics. She traced her family back to Ireland in the 17th century which is really wonderful. But it can lead to surprises and even shock. One of my wife's siblings had an affair while married that produced a child who she attempted to keep the family from knowing. That child is now an adult. One day the phone rings and guess who? All because my wife and her neice began historical ancestry search that went on for months and months. Of course the subject sister was not pleased at all about their efforts-to say the least. And since the subject sister won't say who the father is that only makes my wife and her neice even more curious. Being one of the top 5 lawyers in the country I get a call from the affected sister asking if she had a lawsuit against Ancestry for some sort of privacy breach. Things have calmed down and the subject girl-now woman-is part of the family.
