My very first job was working at the McDonald's across the street from Wichita State University in the summer of '69. Back then you could eat a meal for 52 cents or at least get a burger and a drink for 32 cents.
Hamburger= $.20 cheeseburgers were $.25
French Fries= $.20
small soda= $.10 a large soda was $.15
Tax= $.02
We had lots of kids come in for something to eat (there was an elementary school about 3 blocks from McDonald's) and most of the time the kids would only have between 25 - 50 cents. Our store manager didn't bat an eye or complain when they were a few cents short. He'd say, "give it to 'em. I'll cover the tax".
