didn't go as I expected but....

I knew Spain's D was formidable and probably the biggest factor in today's game... and it was that... man was it ever THAT. MUCH more than I expected.

Sometime soon in the 1st half I decided... I wanted Spain to win. As I said, I love the way they play... reminded me of our '99 Rams. TEAM effort!

I thought the final not a great game... other than watching Spain's undeniable team talent in action. But I saw many, MANY, better games earlier in the tournament.

The USA. I've already confessed, umpteen times, that I'm not qualified to judge soccer.... which is why I opine on it so much. . But from my point of view I just don't think that the USA is even close to the top..... ohhhhh, say 8, maybe even 10, teams. And frankly they SHOULD be by now. I think we're long past "give them time". Soccer in the USA may not be what it is in all the other countries but with 300,000,000+ citizens it's still HUGE. No more excuses.

It occurs to me that I did not annoy Iowa nearly enough during the World Cup. So I'm very happy to report that I have a backup plan!

Rugby! That's right.... because that's one of my grandson's chosen sport I've been paying a lot more attention to Rugby and I am rather shocked at how big it is in the USA. It's actually very popular and the only reason we don't know that is there is next to NO media coverage. SOOOOO, Iowa...
