I'm guessing that was 20 years ago. while I'm sure a few are still in the area for the most part they're gone. Closest today would be maybe 2 miles away as the crow flies.
Couple years ago I went to my cousins ranch in the Coast Range and I walked behind a barn to take a leak. when I looked down I was nearly whizzing on a Pacific Rattlesnake. Little guy, maybe a little over a foot long. they are beautiful snakes.
Not the one I took a leak on.

Had I see one of those taking a leak I'm afraid I might have taken more than a leak.
