A large amount of the people that are traditionally killed by tornadoes ARE IN their cars trying to outrun the tornado.. Friends of mine that I've talked to in '79 tried to outrun it and eventually pulled over and took refuge in sewer systems and such because there was just no way to outrun it, unless you get lucky and the tornado veers off in a different direction..
I always thought I'd park under an overpass and run up the concrete and wedge myself as high up, directly underneath the overhead bridge.. BUT.. I've heard that's not particularly a safe move either because the winds howling through the overpass dramatically pick up speed due to - I believe - Bernoulli's principle..
Friendship is like peeing your pants.. Everybody can see it, but only you can feel the warmth..
