I've always thought of the word maverick as a "western/cowboy" term, but I honestly had no idea what it really means. If somebody asked me to define it, I couldn't. So I looked it up and was surprised to see: "A maverick is an unbranded calf, cow, or livestock that has separated from the herd and has no owner. The term originates from 19th-century Texas rancher Samuel Maverick, who famously did not brand his cattle, making any unmarked strays in the region "Maverick’s" cattle." So, at least they weren't all the way out in left field when they came up with the mascot name. But, yeah... they could have done a better job on the graphic. I saw some pics of the costumed mascot on the Memorial high school's website and it's blue. It kinda reminds me of the Buffalo Bills mascot.
