What I'm talking about is visiting truly famous locations near wherever you live.
I was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany while in the Army. There is a magnificent castle there. I was there nearly two years and never visited that castle until just a few days before I was discharged... even though while there I traveled nearly all of Europe and a few places in Asia.
I have traveled a large part of the world... AND YET.... there are some quite famous locations somewhat near me that I have never visited.
Last year I crossed off one of those locations - Death Valley. DV is only a 4 hour drive from my home and yet it took me 75 years to get there.

So last night I was looking for the closest location to me that I've never visited but would almost certainly be known by everyone on this board. Very subjective, no easy answer... but I think it might be Crater Lake in Oregon. Never been there and if photos are any indication, and they are, it's one of the most amazing and beautiful places on earth.
Crater Lake is not really that close to me. 530 miles. 7 hour drive. That's no excuse. Been to Oregon many, many times and never took the time.
So, I wondered... what famous location is somewhat near you, that we'd all perhaps recognize, that you have yet to visit? - JamesJM
