Gum doesn't seem to have the appeal to young people nowadays like it used to when I was a kid. I hardly ever see anybody chewing gum. That must have been a nasty and thankless job scraping gum and boogers off the bottoms of chairs and desks at the end of the school year. Custodians probably still do it, but it's probably not as bad as it used to be.
