I've posted before, (many times), that the Olympics are my favorite sporting event. And of course I root for the good ole' USA...... BUT.... unlike all other sports I cheer every single athlete participating. Well, almost every other athlete.
And as a fan of 'underdogs' there is nothing I like more than seeing a Country pull off an upset.... and especially winning their first ever medal.
So I cheered when the USA moved into 2nd place in the medal count BUT AT THE SAME TIME I grieved that Italy fell to 3rd. That hypocritical of me, conflicted?

And just to note: I'd make one lousy Figure Skating Judge. In at least 2 Figure Skating events I felt the best performances came from the individual/team that got the silver. BOTH, by the way, where the USA won Gold. NOPE.... didn't think either was 'obvious'.... EXTREMELY CLOSE actually.... but, I did think the Silver medal performances were the best.
HOWEVER....
One of those was Alysa Liu and the Japanese Skater Sakamoto.... I thought 17yr old Sakamoto had the better performance.... especially in artistic expression..... BUT THEN.... they broke it down, in Slo-Mo...... and I had to reassess my initial opinion. Alysa did have the better performance..... but I couldn't see it until I saw the slo-mo replay...... yup....
I have no business judging Figure Skating. - JamesJM
