There are some movies that made me squirm so badly I have never watched them a second time. Others made me squirm AS badly as that but I HAVE watched them again because the content was so interesting.
"Conspiracy" - starring Kenneth Branagh, Stanley Tucci - about the Wannasee Conference, (where the plan for the Holocaust was formulated). Maximum squirm causing evil. BUT... utterly fascinating.
"Downfall" - seen this 2, maybe 3 times. The last few days Hitler. Again, fascinating.
"Schindler's List".... I have NOT watched this movie a 2nd time and I doubt if I ever will.... also one of the greatest movies ever made.
So far all WWII related... I think that makes sense.
"The River's Edge".... based on a true story of young girl who was murdered (in a town not that far from me). I have NOT watched this movie a 2nd time.... the callousness and inhumanity of the characters is unbearable for me yet presented in such way, (in the movie), that it forces you to realize they ARE human.
"The Other" - Fictional movie. Like all the above... pure evil... but from a very unexpected culprit. I have NOT watched this movie again.
"Leaving Las Vegas".... IMHO the greatest performance of Nicholas Cage BY FAR. Utterly depressing. Not a single moment in the film is anything other than agonizing. I DID watch it a second time to check myself.... to see if it truly was as depressing as it was when I saw it the first time. It was.
So that's my list... there are more but none any more disturbing than all the above.
Has anyone ever seen the movie "Diabolique"? Off topic but a request - If you have seen it I have a question for you. I have asked this of many people but no one yet has either seen it or at least replied. Something about the end of this movie that....well, can't get into that... it's what I'd love to discuss with anyone who has seen the movie. Very good movie,BTW...1955 and in B&W. - JamesJM
