but no , although it is still pretty rare
although we've had it happen twice
one time...............
our kitchen is in the north west corner of our house , and thats were water the comes into the house , and our water pipes that go up to the kitchen sink go right up the north wall , and one year , one of the pipes that goes up the the sink faucet broke , even though it was like 70 degrees in the kitchen
the other time , same corner of the house is where the outdoor faucet come out of the house , and even though it was turned off all winter , in the spring when we hooked up the garden hose , and turned it on for the first time for the year , we had very little water pressure coming out of the hose , when I went inside to check the water pressure to the rest of the house , I could hear the water spraying all over the place in the basement , the shaft part that runs through the foundation of the hose had cracked open some time during the winter , and we never noticed it until spring when we turned it back on
so yes , even though it's nice and toasty inside your house , water lines can still freeze and brake
thats been several years ago , but about 5 or 6 years ago , we ripped out the old copper pipes and replaced them wth PEX , and we also now insulate then pipes under the kitchen sink.................lol
