I run a towing service....

it's a sideline.... and I don't get paid.

Our soil is like none other on earth. It's a heavy clay/loam, which is a common soil type 'in general'... ours is different. It's super clay/loam. And what that means is - if you get off the pavement, even 6" off, the earth will absorb you.

I have a tow chain, several actually, and several tow straps as well. They are used frequently. Not for me, personally... well.... yes for grandkids, neighbor kids, who have yet to learn what mud is, but rather -

Any car/truck/vehicle not from around here and ventures into our area after a rain. Mostly that's UPS, FedEx, Amazon, Walmart delivery vehicles. I'm not sure what it is about delivery drivers but they do some of the dumbest #$@# you've ever seen. And so it was this morning, about an hour ago. My doorbell rang... it had rained last night so I knew what was coming. Amazon driver, "Hi, Could you help me? I'm stuck in the mud". My 'tow kit' is in my garage ready to go... because this happens several times a year. Usually it's quick and I have them out in just a few minutes... but this guy?

Not sure I can explain it in a way you can appreciate his stupidity. The road I live on is NOT wide, no shoulder, only "JUST" wide enough for a centerline... actually it's not wide enough for a centerline but they paint one anyway. So this guy, the Amazon driver, is perfectly perpendicular to the road. Rear wheels about on the centerline and his front wheels buried beyond the axles. I was in awe..... I actually told the Amazon guy, "don't tell me... I want to figure out how in the holy hell you got your vehicle in this configuration. I wasn't being a smart ass, well, maybe a little, I really wanted to figure out how it was possible to do what this guy had done. I couldn't. It defied the laws of physics as we know them.

I had to pull him out sideways, spinning the rear end of his car around.... not a big problem - road was slick so it slid easily. I did warn him I couldn't be held responsible for any damage to his vehicle which was SUPER dumb on my part since Amazon would have sued the hell out of me and easily won.... but with lots of experience I was 99% sure no damage would occur.

UPS AND FedEx are due at my home later this afternoon. Wanna make a bet I have to tow at least ONE of them? - JamesJM
