much much much bigger in fact.... and one that you have no doubt heard about.... Betelgeuse is soon to go Super-Nova. You have no idea how much I hope that happens in my lifetime..... not very likely. "Soon" in this case is in astronomical terms... not the more sensible human term.

When it does it could be almost like a second moon in the sky.... not as big but almost as bright. There have been Super Novas recorded in written history.... those lucky devils.
Ok.. I have to report this for the umpteenth time because, well, I actually DID see something that almost no other humans have seen. I saw a meteorite hit the earth. I had gone outside to take a leak, (I live in the country), and happened to be facing the east when it came straight down and impacted the earth in a bright neon-like blue explosion. Distance is almost impossible to gauge when things fall from the sky so I first thought it was VERY close.... and considered getting in my pickup and looking for it. it actually hit about 35 miles from me in the small down of Malaga which adjoins Fresno, Ca. Now you could get all 'technical' on me here and say I did NOT see it actually hit... due to the curvature of the earth over 35 miles... which is probably true... but I did see the explosion. - JamesJM
