The Border Showdown (aka the Border War) was a HUGE rivalry football game between Kansas University and Univ. of Missouri which lasted from 1891-2011.
I hadn't realized that the last time the two schools played each other was almost 15 years ago! They used to be in the same conference so it was an annual event that folks from Kansas and Missouri really looked forward to but yeah... that all changed when Missouri joined the SEC. I always thought it was cool that historically the game was played in Kansas City, Missouri which is halfway between Lawrence, Kansas (KU) and Columbia, Missouri (MIzzou) so the schools were literally on both sides of the Kansas/Missouri border. Hence the name... Border Showdown.
Missouri leads the series: 56–55–9
The good news is: They will meet up again on the gridiron in 2026, 2031, and 2032.
The game this weekend will feel like old times, for sure.
I'll be watching!
