When I have been MADE to read, in High School or I make myself sit down and read, I have read some really good books. Being a WWII History buff, I have read some REALLY good books....... "Guns Of Navarrone" got me an A+ report in High School....Miracle At Midway and A- and They Were Expendable a B+.
As an adult, I found Unbroken to be incredible.....In Harms Way (About the USS Indianapolis. Maybe the most heart breaking read ever for me) Shattered Sword (The Japanese POV at Midway) and my favorite....."Sole Survivor", The story of Ens George Gay of the USS Hornet's Torpedo Squadron #8 at Midway.
It HAAAAAS to be something I KNOW I enjoy. Hell, reading about Firefighting was painful. LOVED the job but hated reading about it. That was very costly come promotion time, with 2000-3000 pages of study material.
I'm not so sure I'd have the patience to hear a book read.
