Sooooooooo many stories within that battle that have been ignored by BOTH movies (1976, 2019) One of my favorite unknowns is the B-26 crew on board the "Suzi Q" who made a run riiiiiiight over the length of the carrier Akagi's flight deck to avoid AA. The nose gunner sprayed the flight deck as they passed. Talk about a "EFF YOU!" move! They actually made it back to Midway. Torpedo Squadron #8, of the USS Hornet, could actually be a full movie in itself.. The Dive Bomber Pilots and the TBD Pilots all knew the TBD was a death sentence. But they flew anyway. One of T-8's Pilots, after he found that his Radio Man / Tail Gunner was a newlywed and his Wife was expecting, sent the Gunner back to the States for "Remedial Training", knowing it would save his life. It did. I read SBD Pilot, "Dusty" Kliess' book "Don't Call Me A Hero" . The story of he wishing a friend of his, who was a TBD Pilot, "Good Luck", before a mission. through misty eyes, was powerful stuff. He KNEW he was a goner. And he was. Kliess went on to have hits on the Kaga and Hiryu.
And GEEEEEESH! If they should do such a series, PLEEEEEASE tone it DOWN with the CGI anti aircraft fire!!! My biggest beef with the last Midway.
