To me for the same reason: I always feel an edit can "make" the song.. I'm like Pixar, the animated movie production studio: I never finish a song, I just release it..
Actually, that would be the job of a gifted producer in the studio.. it would be his job to suggest minor edits that pull the loose strings in the song together.. Def Leppard is a good example.. They wrote good songs, Mutt Lang turned them into some of the most successful songs of all time....
Like Aries said, guitarists have set an extremely high bar, like drummers.. Both, imo, started in the 80's.. people laugh about big hair and the looks etc, but the 80s spawned some of the best musicians EVER and set the bars extremely high.. Same for late 70's.. just crazy musicianship hiding under that Aquanet and Maybelline..
In setting the bar high, now even 6 year olds can play better than I ever did.. But, since the 80s, I really dont think guitarists have made major strides in pushing the envelope.. Drummers, I can't speak to nearly as much.. I know there are crazy badass drummers out there - I'm just not sure anyone has innovatively pushed the envelope very far on drums, other than speed, but I don't listen to much of anything current...
Friendship is like peeing your pants.. Everybody can see it, but only you can feel the warmth..
