That's kind of true of guitarists too (that speed doesn't necessarily equate to artistry). I remember reading an article a while back, it may have been Dusty Hill who said of Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) that his talent wasn't how fast he played, it was his tone.

Gibbons style was very unique, even I recognized him on Jeff Healey's song "Cruel Little Number" and I'm not very smart. Had to do some research, he is credited under the pseudonym Justis Walkert.
