I once stayed in a Mom and Pop motel in Williams, Az...

I was traveling through Az. and every damn motel was full... .I was about ready to just pull over and sleep on the side of the road.

But at the last moment we found this little NON-Franchise Mom & Pop place that had one room left. Tiniest motel room I've ever stayed in.

You had to move a little nightstand for the door to open all the way. Inside the furniture, I swear, had to be from 40's. Hell, maybe the 30's. BUT.... that was without question the CLEANEST room I've ever stayed in in my life.

Those kind of places still exist. They are out there. And IMHO better than any 5 Star I've ever stayed in. - JamesJM
