As far as a "Body" or work I'm not sure any others have done better than the Coens. But again... some are close, or even tied. Hitchcock for example. Something people don't get about Hitchcock is his contributions to film go FAR behind the actual story or plot of his movies... or even how 'enteraining' they may be. It's his artistic touch and innovation. Directors today use innovations Hitchcock came up with.... or at least were inspired by him.
