Perhaps that’s cheating because I already live on the North shore of Lake Superior in Northern Ontario, but that area of Minnesota instantly relaxes me every time I am there. So much to do if you are into the outdoors. Amazing trail systems on state park land, rivers, waterfalls. Great alpine skiing at Lutsen, great Nordic skiing on the already mentioned trails once the snow flies. It’s just a beautiful rugged area and towns like Grand Marias and Tofte just punch you in the face with their charm.
However, if I’m not allowed to pick Minnesota because of my current location then I’d pick somewhere in New England, preferably small town/rural. Of all the places in the region, I’ve only been to Boston so this choice isn’t based on a lot of firsthand experience. I just romanticize that region of the US for some reason. The photographs I’ve seen of the leaves during autumn probably have a lot to do with it. I loved seeing the historical sites when I was in Boston, so that is probably an influence as well.
While I have really started to hate winter as I get older, I would need to live somewhere with at least a little bit of winter, or at least not 365 days of summer.
