Made up of 3 different parts tha ti sort of combined together.. The main setup is An ADT monitored system on all doors and windows.. I flat out removed the motion sensors as I've never encountered a system in which the motion sensors were not a total PITA..
Then I added a 4 camera system and have 4 cameras around the house tied to a receiver type thing that records all 4 cameras..
Lastly I have a RING doorbell that has a camera in it that we can monitor through her cell phone and my iPad.. It was actually fairly easy to install (two wires) but I previously knew about the transformer since I had replaced the doorbell a few years ago.. back then I didn't know there was a transformer in the doorbell wiring and found that out the hard way.. Like you, I didn't kill the breaker tot he doorbell/RING circuit as I figured it didn't have enough juice to light me up.. although I wore rubber gloves to make the connections lol..
Wanna know how to get LIT up by a circuit you'd never suspect? Try rewiring your phone line (if you even have one anymore).. a surprising amount of voltage going through 1 or 2 of those cables.. But, I still give the TR7 spark wire credit for LIGHTNING me up the most.. I touched that thing while the car was running and thought I had lost fingers, at first..
Friendship is like peeing your pants.. Everybody can see it, but only you can feel the warmth..
