I ordered the guitar so that it would be delivered on a day I was home, which was Saturday.. I didn't know what time - just that it would be before 7pm.. So, figured I'd keep an eye out for the truck, then meet them in the courtyard before they rang the bell..
So, at 9:30 am the front doorbell rings! They have NEVER delivered that early.. So I go running to the front door, open it, go outside and close the door.. the guy says "I just need your last name" and I tell it to him.. At that point I realize my wife is behind me, but the door is closed and I also notice 5 five gallon water jugs sitting by the front door - which was what SHE thought the doorbell was for..
So, I quickly move the guitar so that she can't see it from inside the house and grab the first 5 gallon jug.. She opens up the door and, as always, I hand her the first jug.. We always do this deal where I take it the first half of the trip and she (if she's there) takes it the second leg of the trip to where we store them.. So, I start moving jugs really fast inside the house, wait for her to take another jug around the corner, and move the guitar to a better, less obvious location..
We get all the jugs inside, I shut the door, she starts walking to the living room and says, "They needed your last name to deliver the water?" and I say "yes" because several days earlier they delivered our water to the wrong house... I pretend to be doing something inside.. After a few minutes I go outside (every time we open a door, our security alarm says "front door open" so I know she knows I'm going outside) and grab the guitar and bring it inside and take it to the master bedroom, then the closet.. Mission accomplished.. She was literally 3 feet from the guitar and never saw it.. She even heard me give my last name for the delivery.. I just got lucky that the jugs of water had been delivered earlier.. Somehow she didn't notice the UPS truck, not the water truck, in front of the house..
We have separate bank accounts, so its really not a big deal, but still...
Friendship is like peeing your pants.. Everybody can see it, but only you can feel the warmth..
