I think I have them figured out. I took one song - "Rosanna" by Toto - and broke it down... listening to exactly what they were doing. They are NOT playing exactly the same way the original songs were recorded. For example - Jeff Porcaro, Toto's drummer, played one of the most iconic beats in Rosanna ever recorded by a drummer... you won't find a drummer that isn't familiar with the swing beat Jeff played in Rosanna.... Lexington Lab's drummer? Not even close to the same beat... much, much simpler... AND YET....
You'd never know. His meter is so dead on... the 'accent' notes so pronounced - - - and tone of his drums.. my GOD the tone... it's perfection.... that I was shaking my head in disbelief.
Nope, not Toto... but so damn good at playing the 'heart' of the song, in perfect meter WITH instruments tuned to perfection... and the recording also... WOW... that's all I can ---- "WOW". - JamesJM
