Same situation.. contorting to get through the attic.. each 2x4 has insulation off where I step - its a path through the attic.. extremely difficult to move through.. an absolute miracle I haven't gone through the ceiling.. plus, in summer, it must be 160 degrees in there.. I've re-wired most of the lights and added recessed lights throughout the house.. I've had to lay and balance on 2x4s while doing the wiring.. it sucks.. it really, really sucks..
Funniest thing: under the insulation, I found a 20 foot NEW floor board.. the ONLY way that floorboard could have made its way into the attic, was if somebody dropped it through the rafters before the plywood was nailed for the roof, then shingled.. NO way that could have gotten up there any other way..
