I think you guys are judging BM too harshly. The Seahawks have a good passing defense and are cruddy against the run. Whenever we ran it was a success. Akers went over 100 yards on less than 20 tries. But, for some crazy reason, we kept trying to pass. In the pouring rain. To smaller speed receivers against big physical CBS. And our current bunch of backups "starting" along the OL were getting thrashed. These guys can run block okay but can't pass block at all. So, BM, is running around with no pass protection in a downpour
Trying to throw accurate passes to smallish receivers. What could go wrong? The fourth quarter calls cost us the game. BM played well enough to win it. But, with the refs, the rain, the 12th man and a playoff hungry team aren't to blame. Let's pick on the 4th string QB. I saw this guy live so his miracle work on the TNF game against the Raiders. He is a player. We got him for a couple of trinkets. He won us two games in the 4 1/2 he played. With no training camp, almost no practice and a horrible offensive line. Our record was 5-12. It wasn't like we were 12-0 and he lost us the last 5 games. We were a hot mess when he joined in.
I hope he comes back. He can learn from McVay, Kupp and Stafford. He will grow as a player. He has a great arm. Nobody gets picked as the number one overall in the draft without a Howister. And he's smart. And he can run. He's everything you could want in a backup QB. The only question is finances. Personally I'm glad he didn't have a Broncos type game. How did he look putting up 51?
His mediocre game probably kept his price down so we can re-sign him. And the loss will help us in the draft. I was upset in the moment because the guys played so hard and the refs just took the game away from them. But, as far as keeping a young QB, developing you players and improving our draft it was a huge victory.
