Re: Maybe there won't be a market for him as a starter

In a QB hungry league Baker Mayfield was released and only the Rams put in a claim for him. So a few weeks ago there wasn't a market for him and there wasn't any salary obstacles in the way.

If there isn't a market for Baker Mayfield as a starter with a multi year deal being offered it would make sense for him to spend a year or so as a backup in McVay offense. If you are going to be a backup as a young and talented QB go somewhere that is going to develop you skills and knowledge of the game. Rams would seem to be a good fit and the McVay/Baker relationship seems like a positive factor.

If there is a good market for him as as starter with starter money for multiple years then he has to take that deal but that deal may not be there for him. It sure would be nice to have him as the backup next season. I guess we will have to see how the QB market shapes up next season.

I continue to believe the following things:

BM has solid franchise QB potential. Emphasis potential.

McVay/Stafford would be the perfect learning spot for BM to polish his skills and achieve his potential.

Stafford will probably retire after the ‘24 season creating the perfect starting QB opening for BM and a nice fat contract. He could then enjoy a helluva 8-10 year career with Rams living the dream.

If BM and his agents can see the long term benefits of accepting a short term backup QB role then this could become a win-win-win situation for all parties, including we fans.

I don't disagree with anything you are saying except that IF there is a market for Baker as a starter next year and a multiyear contract 100Mil + contract I think it would be negligent for his agent not to push him in that direction.

Mayfield’s reputation as an ‘up and down’ inconsistent QB seems to be holding true, huh?

Could be... but I didn't think he played that badly yesterday...

In all fairness, Stafford wasn't exactly lighting things up either.
