I find it concerning when people criticize the simple offense McVay was forced to run this year. I mean, just to reduce mental mistakes when the roster is a veritable carousel, any smart coach would simplify the assignments and hope to call the right plays at the right times. I would bet at least a third of the playbook has been mothballed due to the roster that remains to implement it.
I have seen McVay outschemed many times and, by the way, it happens to every coach. But that Raider game may have been his best I have ever seen from him. To simplify it to the most basic core and orchistrate it with very few errors and still win is such a subtle, masterful performance! But in a terrible season, it will never be appreciated...except by me and anyone else who has a grip on how miraculous it was.
