I know McVay has this encylopedia mind for football, but watching him at press conferences doesn't inspire me to think he'd be any good in the booth. Knowledge alone doesn't necessarily qualify you to be good on TV. Often, quite the opposite.
Yeah, you can train him up some, but as someone who has brushed up against this industry a few times, I just don't think he has the personality to be an interesting commentator. (And honestly, I would find his voice a little irritating after a while)
although, don't think he is ready to give up his passion that is coaching any time soon, I think he would be an excellent analyst...probably one of the best ever.
He has great communication skills, he has charisma, energy, he has amazing memory, could diagnose every play form every angle , etc...You don't find all of those things in any of the guys currently doing it.
but I'm surprised King is so far off on thinking McVay would maybe walk away after a season like this....if anything, a season like this would reinvigorate someone like McVay
Exactly. Also, consider this...the Rams will get a five week head start on the two Super Bowl teams, three weeks on the championship game losers, etc etc. That's a huge advantage to guys like McVay and Snead. Not just in scouting and self evaluation, but in the health and recovery if your players.
