Probably time for me to update the "epic" poem, Poor Tommy Dimplechin.

But every time I think that it's time, he outdoes himself.

And you folks haven't seen it, yet. You'll be the first. Here are a few lines:

How good is Tommy Dimplechin?
Who cheats for stats and cheats for wins?
In the top ten? Uhh, maybe so.
But greatest of all time? Hell no!

You see, greatness has another measure:
It isn’t just how cool you look,
It isn’t just your winning record,
Especially if you won by crook.

Greatness has no asterisk*
It’s not the legacy of a jerk
...

The great ones don’t win every time,
And they take their hits – lose or win.
And they don’t flop, and kick, and whine -
Like men, they take it on the chin.

The great ones… they could take a hit,
Get up and come back strong.
The great ones play it by the rules,
‘Cause they know right from wrong.

The greats congratulate the winners
When they chance to lose;
Graciousness and humility
Are signs of greatness, too.
...

You’re not like Lombardi’s Packers
And the greats who played for him,
The guys like Hornung, Starr, and Taylor –
Fuzzy Thurston, Jerry Kramer –
Ask those guys,
They’ll tell you why
The Lombardi Trophy’s named for him.

We remember the words Lombardi spoke
And how his champions fit the mold.
That’s why his name is on that trophy –
That Tommy and Billy aren’t worthy to hold.

There was also the Dallas dynasty
Where a gentleman called the plays.
We remember Landry’s hat, and tie,
And integrity – Bill has none of these.

Or Walsh’s teams in San Francisco,
Or Miami Dolphin days,
When Joe Montana and Dan Marino
Put real greatness on display.

And what about the grocery clerk?
The second-stringer for the Rams?
The Greatest Show on Turf was great
‘Cause Kurt Warner rose and took command.

There;s more. If Brady slows down a little in his fast-moving pursuit of self-serving and immoral avarice, I'll be able to catch it up and finish it.

I don't envy him. He's a collosal irritant, but at base I pity him. God help him - nobody else can.

Hmm... pride goeth before the fall? Be careful, Tommy Dimplechin, you might lose all you've tried to win....
