So, on the one hand, you're not a fan of trading picks for players. But on the other, you're dissatisfied with the players the organization has drafted with the picks that they've had.
Its not that I didn't like the picks (or the players) I liked the Akers, Jefferson, Lewis, Kyren Williams, Kupp, Scott picks, its that I didn't like the fact that they used their top picks (2nd and 3rd rounders) on O weapons instead of the lines. So say you have your 1st and 2nd rounders, go ahead and use them on a weapon, then maybe they come back in the 2nd and take a OC like Humphrey. I cannot imagine them going WR in the 1st, RB in the 2nd etc. Either way, say they drafted a WR with a first round pick, then maybe they don't spend 15 mil per year on Robinson and resign Corbett instead. Its still improves the line. Or at least kept it the same.
Let's assume you listen to all offers for current core players (and TBH, I'm not sure why Kupp wasn't included on your list because he'd have no team around him)...
I said I'd listen to offers on Kupp, but I want to keep him as long as I can, until he transitions to a coach. Everyone raves about how smart he is and how he is like a coach on the field. And for the record, I did say I'd listen to offers for him
What is your confidence level that McSnead can select the right players to build a more balanced team?
None, but more picks and more high picks seems like it gives you a better shot at getting better players (at least in theory)
I mean, before 'eff them picks," wasn't Snead's claim to fame was "outsmarting" everyone else by constantly trading back in the draft?
It's clear to me that mistakes have CLEARLY been made with respect to the OL and team leadership. But you seem to be looking for a tear-down for the sake of tearing down.
You have a better option to restocking the glaring lack of talent on this roster, esp the OL? No cap space, another year of no 1st round picks and an OL that has zero talent outside Havs. Sure they can create some cap space, but thats just kicking the can down the road. AD is already gonna count against the cap after his contract expires. And if you think Staffords chronic issues will magically get better, then chronic must mean something different than what I think it means. And lets not get started on how disruptive Ramsey will be on a losing team.
I'd argue that if you asked a GM if he could win with a roster that included Aaron Donald, Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp, and Jalen Ramsey they'd tell you hell yes! They would say no, not with that OL
The Rams just need to quit outsmarting themselves.
- Solidify the OL how, I'm genuinely curious on how'd you'd do it
- Hire (or listen to) an OC that can meld a rushing attack with McVay's offense McVay can run the ball, in 2017 they were 8th in team rushing yards, 2018 they were 3rd, 2019 they were 26th, 2020 they were 10th, 2021 they were 25th. So 3 of the 5 years they have been top 3 in team rushing yards. But I agree and I would recommend Thomas Brown, elevate him now, before he gets sniped, and block him from interviewing if McVay is nearing the end of his run.
- Allow said OC to call the plays Agree
- Get an effective RB extremely agree
These are things that should allow the Rams to get back into contention sooner than relying upon the crapshot of the draft. If you cannot fix the OL, all rest doesn't matter. At all, not one bit.
