An excellent, if somewhat sobering post.
McVay certainly has lost that eye of the tiger. I was so happy we had a young, dynamic coach, but you can see it's taken it's toll on him. As much as he wanted Rams House to be the NFL coaching academy, the lack of continuity has to be a strain, and not every guy walking through the door is the next super star. I agree that we are on limited time with him, and there is no heir apparent. And with no money or picks, it's a hard climb for him or the next guy going forward.
I'm at the "burn it down" point as well. But do I trust these guys to build it back up? Snead has made a legend of himself in the NFL, but other than DBs, we all know the real story. Watch him squander another RGIII trade if we unload Donald and Kupp? Makes me nervous just thinking about it.
The O line is going to be a long, slow rebuild. Was reminding my boys of the dead years between the drafting of Orlando Pace and the signing of Whitt. That's a lot of years we went to bat with scrub lineman. Funny how they match our worst years. No O line, no O. We need another FA pickup here, or we'll just throw bodies at it and hope one sticks like we've been doing. Evans, Noteboom, Havenstein. Sure, we've drafted O linemen. But like you say, a bailing wire O line while we go out surfing for gadget wide receivers and running backs.
So, I've been crossing my fingers for a while, because this model was so unsustainable. I just think a lot of us had. Thank you for your post, cause you hit it right on the head.
