For example, Akers looks like a 2nd round bust. Another one, actually. Unaffordable in a draft lacking a 1st rounder. Fuller looked promising once upon a time as a 6th round starter, but what has he done lately other than get various injuries? Anchrum has ‘potential’ we’ve been told for 3-4 years now, but where’s the actual production? Lewis and Hopkins are poster boys for athleticism yet both have disappointed on the field. The Atwell pick speaks for itself. Nope, ‘20 was NOT a vintage year for Snead.
Akers, Fuller, and Anchrum all got hurt after they became starters with the Rams. And I know Anchrum only started because cuz Allen got hurt so if you want to call him the 6th OL that's fine by me. Point is, unless you have a crystal ball how could you expect Snead to avoid drafting these guys merely because they were going to get hurt a year or 2 later? Hindsight is great, but you don't have that info on draft day. To me there's a big difference between a bust (Greg Robinson?) and a guy who's career got derailed by injury.
We heard about Anchrum's potential for 2 years - 2020 & 2021. As a 7th round pick I'd say he exceeded all reasonable expectations this year by starting the season as the 6th OL and being the first guy off the bench when Allen got hurt.
I had also hoped for more from Lewis. He was always a crap shoot with his college injuries. I had hoped more from Hopkins, too. It takes more time for some guys than others to produce. Maybe the book isn't closed yet on these two.
And I know it seems like Tutu has been an issue for a long time, but he was drafted in 2021, not 2020.
As things stand only 2 teams have more home-grown talent than the Rams: the Cowboys and the Ravens. [
theramswire.usatoday.com] If 2020 is an outlier I guess I've already learned to live with it.
