players learn all that before the NFL- to the extent players may get into bad habits
the position coaches could work with them but if someone cannot run the ball
they sit or get cut
NFL coaches teach reads, nuances of route concepts, keys to the gameplan
making sure people do their responsibility of where to be if team does this
or that.
If NFL coaches could teach someone to run the ball Rams would teach Akers
how to do it.
That’s kind of a foolish statement, 53.
Rookies coming in from even the best of colleges need intensive NFL coaching including even the most fundamental things. Blocking, tackling, weight training, nutrition, etc.
Their football acumen has scarcely begun when they join an NFL team.
The best coaches at the NFL level try to get those fundamentals up to snuff asap. And the very best coaches work with their players to keep ‘em there.
Rams asst coaches seemed to be elite at these things once upon a time. But this year it’s gotten away from them too often. Dixon out kicking his coverage last Sunday being a recent good example. It’s happening on all 3 units on the Rams right now and it’s quite alarming, frankly.
