You can't play well when you're on your 3rd center and 5th guard in 4 games. That's too much damage.
That's really what it all comes down to. The Rams were heading into the season with pretty talented, promising depth overall (Anchrum, Jackson and Bruss as the top backups). Two of those guys were quickly eliminated and with starter injuries that's 5 of their top 8 OL who were out on Monday Night. Against more than half the league they actually probably survive and win the game. On the road against a top-tier defense (and team that's simply had their number) in San Francisco they didn't.
I've said this already but there is not a team in the league with the type of OL depth to weather that. Most teams feel good if they have a good 6th man and maybe a decent 7th. Beyond that? Sorry....
And I agree that the position they are in now is not about lack of investment in the OL. It's just not. Yes, the Atwell/Creed Humphrey thing is an all-time head scratcher. No question. But they
have also drafted 8 OL in the past 5 drafts and 5 of those guys were slated to either start or be a game day backup for them heading into the season. Plus they went out and acquired Corbett in mid-2019.
They're having a string of really bad injury luck at a critical position group. That's all there is to it. Hopefully Edwards is back this week and Allen for Carolina the week after.
