Since you and a couple others have posted a more detailed explanation and justification of Morris's defensive scheme I have to ask "How much soft is too much soft?" The philosophy of stopping chunk plays, the "Fangio," makes much more sense now. But my goodness, the Rams' DBs were so far off the LoS I thought, they might as well not even bother to run the play and just give them 10 yards for free, it was too easy.
Could Morris fine tune the distance the DBs give the WRs to make it a little more challenging? Just 2 yards would make it look more difficult for the opposing QBs. Hell, even I could make a short pass completion against that defense. I'm not saying it's bad because I agree with your general argument, just maybe a little too soft.
