He and Dick Butkus had a talent I've seen so seldom that as of this post I can't think of any other player that possessed it....
I don't think either had the ability to bend at the waist.... for different reasons... Butkus had no knees left.... the result was the same...those two were dang near straight up and down at all times. Czonka would hit the line in such an upright position that I would think he was going to be stuffed but instead... it was HE that moved the pile.
Same with Butkus's tackles... he'd meet the RB, or receiver, standing nearly straight up and then....NOT GIVE AN INCH!!!
It's not a tactic I would recommend to any football player... but Czonka and Butkus excelled at it! - JamesJM
