There are 5 levels of intensity in NFL play…

August 14, 2022 09:23AM
Summer camp.

Occasional controlled scrimmages with other teams. Emphasis‘controlled’.

Preseason games.

Regular season games.

Playoff games.

We all know these things and their vast differences if we think about them.

The tricky part is for coaches, beat writers, and fans to observe play in the first 2 scenarios and correctly extrapolate likely performance in the regular season and playoffs.

Many debates will occur between now and season end about player A vs player B. Always interesting and frequently thought provoking.

The best evaluators will not be known until deep into the regular season.

Currently, Rams have no shortage of players that are stimulating strong debate as to their Ram future. Here is a short list:

Atwell vs McCutcheon
Kyren Williams vs Funk
Should Perkins be 3rd QB and make the 53?
Lewis, Hardy, or Garrett as backup edge opposite Floyd?
Rochell, Hill, Durant, or Kendrick as boundary CB? Slot?
Should Rapp start or be traded?
Exactly who will start at S with Scott?
Dixon or Dicker as P?

My current favorite is the pecking order of Atwell vs McCutcheon. I’m smitten with this McCutcheon kid but am waiting for on field evidence from Atwell. McVay may be unintentionally fostering a 4th WR controversy. Lol.

Can’t wait for the regular season.
