I know they said they wanted Perkins to stay in the pocket more this preseason. It was a point of emphasis. It looked like he might have been thinking too much and was a bit late on some of his throws.
His arm isn't the best, that's for sure but I am not sure it's much worse than the Wolf's arm. Both backup QB's suffer from a lack of arm strength.
I wouldn't give up just yet on Perkins. Let's see how progresses in the next 2 games. He has to get the ball quicker. If the game can slow down for him in the pocket it will be a huge help.
Beat writers and camp reporters have all noticed a big improvement in Wolford’s throwing this year. They’ve also described Perkins’ practice play as disappointing compared to just last year.
Now I do suspect that Perkins is one of those QB’s that plays better than he practices but I no longer see him as a possible #2 QB. I’m not sure he makes the 53 this year, tbh. If he was my call I’d give that roster spot to an up-and-comer at another position.
I’d keep trying to bring in a QB every offseason until we hit paydirt.
