these passes are greater than terrible......Jack Buck

i've been recently watching many Rams games from this Anaheim era on YouTube ... the Rams defense was outstanding back then. specifically, 1985....

everyone remembers Buddy Ryan's 4-6 Bear's defense, but the Rams defense was also pretty good back then.

The 1985 divisional playoff game vs Dallas.. sure folks remember Dickerson's 250 rushing yards and Deiter's woeful 6 completions, but the Cowboys were shut out for the only time in Cowboy playoff history in that game 20-0. Dallas punted 7 times, Danny White was picked 3 times and sacked 5 times.

Dieter overthrew a wide open Ellard in the 2nd half, and Jack Buck announced that Dieter's passes were "greater than terrible" ... i never heard anyone say something like that.

Jack Buck, Dick Vermeil and Hank Stram did that game.

Rams defense was vastly underrated during the Robinson / Fritz Schurmer era.

Check out those Robinson games out on Youtube... Rams defense, special teams, and running game was solid. I can only imagine poor Henry Ellard's thoughts on Dieter Brock's passing ability.

Was Jeff Kemp and Steve Dils that bad that they couldn't unseat Dieter Brock?

Those old games from the 1980s are a blast to watch.

Check out this classic MNF opening from 1983 from Howard Cosell describing the greatness of Eric Dickerson and Willam Andrews of the ATL while the MNF theme rumbles in the background.... that introduction is a thing of beauty.
