Initially I was pretty surprised by this signing, but after reading the above USAT article, the moved seems to make a great deal of sense,

Plus given Woods lower number per game until his injury, makes this signing look like a smart move. Love Booby Trees, but the NFL is a business and I like Bill Walsh's approach to letting a player go a year to early as opposed to a year too late.
