They are digging out from Goff and Gurley and by 2023 will be pretty much clean slate contracts-wise. I really think with PBJ and Miller the plan is to let them leave and recoup 2023 comp. picks. And I would agree with that.
As for creating space, they won't have a lot but will have some with Whitworth retiring and if they do the smart thing and release Hekker. Combine those with a redo of Stafford's deal and that will create enough wiggle room to do that they need- especially with no draft picks until after #100 overall...
Hollins is under control for 2022 (and 2023 as a RFA). They have decisions to make about David Long ($1.1M cap number in 2022- not a lot but do you pay a CB5 that?) and Reeder (RFA- would cost them $2.4M to keep).
As far as UFA, it was an is always going to come down to SJD, Corbett and (now that he's emerged) Allen. I lean toward trying to keep Allen, personally. I think consistency in the QB-C combination is important. And while I am one of those that still does not at all get why they didn't draft Creed Humphrey over Atwell in April they got lucky with Allen finding his footing and I think should try to extend him.
They would've saved money by not trying to resign Allen and had Humphrey on a cheap rookie deal. Just poor planning and a poor draft pick. But I know I am beating a dead horse here.
