I will agree with others that have said coaching is also at issue. And namely (unfortunately) at defensive coordinator and special teams coordinator. I think the Rams have plenty of good assistant coaches on this staff. The offensive assistants are all very good and I think their defensive line coaches are good. I will never understand why Aubrey Pleasant wasn't made DC when Staley left. Seemed very logical to me.
As far as depth, I think TE, LB and CB have been the major issues. Mundt was/is a good blocking TE3 that was elevated to TE2 and, once hurt, they have had literally
no one to take his place. Hopkins cannot get a sniff on the field in year 2. Harris was really a WR anyway. Blanton is a PS guy now being asked to be the TE2. It's a gaping hole..
At ILB I still say trading Young was a mistake and that him paired with Jones would be a more productive duo. Hollins is on his way back- hopefully for the MNF game in two weeks- and that can only help.
CB is a mystery because (a) Williams regression has been so steep and (b) David Long was unable to step up into Troy Hill's CB3 role. Rochell has shown promise but he's a rookie. Thankfully Deayon has shown he's capable but they're fortunate that a PS guy could step up there.
