No, I don't think it should've been a penalty. Yes he took a few strides toward the wrong bench but he didn't point or yell or even say anything. When he turned back to run off to his side the ref who saw him stayed right in his path. The ref made no move whatsoever to avoid him running into him. It was a huge call and a dumb one.
