I used to be frequent poster, but it has been some 15 years since I have posted. While I stopped posting, I have remained a daily reader of this excellent forum. Kudos to the admins and knowledgeable posters.

Yesterday’s performance was disheartening to say the least. However, I offer some perspective.

On October 2, 1994, the dreaded Niners were 3-1 and playing the Eagles at Candlestick. The Eagles annihilated them, winning 40-8. As a diehard Rams fan, I experienced a great deal of schadenfrunde, thinking perhaps the niners had been exposed.

Alas, that feeling was fleeting, as the Niners would real off 10 wins in a row, before losing the season final, resting most of their starters for most of the game. They would go on to defeat Chicago and Dallas in the playoffs, before trouncing the Chargers 49-26 in the Super Bowl.

The loss to the Eagles was the second worst in history for a team that would go on to win the SuperBowl. Steve Young, who would go into be the regular season and SuperBowl MVP (he would set a record with six TD passes in the S, was awful against the Eagles, completing 11 of 23 for 99 yards, threw 2 interceptions, and was sacked for a safety before giving way to Elvis Grbac . The Eagles outgained the Niners 437 to 189.

Right now, I am more interested in seeing how the Rams - players and coaches - respond this Thursday against the Seahawks.
