Their take on the run game was this.
1) There is no structural/scheme issue.
2) Take out the one long run, and you have the Rams holding the
Bears to under 70 yards.
3) The defense is structured to take away splash plays. Yes, the long run was a screw up. But screw ups happen. It's football.
4) The entire scheme is based on forcing the opposing team to have take small gains over and over again to score. The philosophy is that the opposing OC will get antsy, try to do something against a D that is specifically designed to stop it, and wind up landing on his sword.
5) It was the first game of the year and there was bound to be a few glitches. But overall the D performed really well. After all, they did hold the Bears to 14 points.
Bottom line: chill out about the running D. The Rams are always going to invite another team to run the ball at them. That's built in to their philosophy. But, that doesn't mean that they can't improve against the run, or that they pay more attention to it depending on who they are playing.
