It was the players. When a RB plays well enough in this offense things click. When they don't things don't click. Queue up any game from the point Gurley started to fall apart on and you'll see backs coming in and not doing enough to make this offense go.
In fact that was Brown who couldn't stay healthy and sustain success. Same with Hendy. Having a great game is well and good but you gotta sustain success or the offense is going to be start and stop, good one game bad the next.
This is why things started looking so different when Akers hit his stride. He was putting up game after game of nice results and that my friends is the engine that makes this offense run. WCO has always been run-game dependent and McVay's iteration certainly is as well.
Now as to whether this stable of backs can get the job done, we will see. I do think Jones has a chance and they're going to give him a hard look. But once again if I'm Snead I'd bring in a guy who can eat carries and give us some consistency when the holes aren't there, vs the more physical fronts. I guarantee you the Bears are going to sell out to stop the run and it probably won't be too hard to do, so that game will probably be Stafford lighting them up. But you can't do that all season long and then win in the playoffs. A pass happy offense dies in the playoffs.
