He prefers speed backs, that much is certain. Akers is a speed back, he's just a speed back who can also do other stuff like get skinny and grind tough yards. Hendy's a speed back. Jones is too, though he's not as talented as the first two he's probably more a slasher but very much in the same vein.
McVay clearly does not value power backs. And that bugs me btw. I hate it. Because when CJ was powering this offense late in 2018 the offense looked great. I think McVay needs to reassess there.
But either way Funk is a different type back. He runs behind his pads, similar style to Emmit Smith IMO with decisive cuts and thumps if he needs to or hits the hole hard and fast. If he can stay healthy he'll probably look great in this offense in presason games, of that I have no doubt.
Again though it drives me nuts how McVay doesn't seem to value power options in the backfield. Because I think his offense looks fantastic with that element.
