I've actually been wondering about this. We know in the past Mcvay's offense has been play action heavy and thus dependent on a good run game.
But with the change to Stafford they may have already been moving to a less run dependent offense. Stafford hasn't needed play action so far in his career. In addition the Rams have spent a lot of money on the WR position. I kind of think that, with or without, Akers they were going to be a pass heavy team. I think Stafford became the cornerstone the minute they traded for him.
