2nd - Don't underestimate Stafford's impact on the OL. Word is that he helped the Lions' center become a decent C. Also I can see Stafford thriving in a quick pass offense if McVay needs to go to that. Scheming to help the OL perform better? Yes, we can do that with MS.
I agree with a lot of things you say in your post. But in terms of a minor disagreement, I do think the Detroit center, Ragnow, is good entirely in his own right.
This bit I quote below is just more testimony to that. The guy speaking here is Brad Holmes, the Lions GM and of course the well-regarded former chief scout for the Rams.

"Frank is a foundational piece of what we're building in Detroit and he is everything that we're looking for in a Lion. Frank plays the game the right way and has dedicated himself to improving his craft each season," Lions general manager Brad Holmes said in a released statement. "We are ecstatic to come to this agreement and to have Frank be a leader on our team for years to come."
In a recent ranking of the top 10 interior offensive linemen by ESPN, Ragnow is ranked No. 4 overall, and is the top-rated center in the entire league.
